What a cost unit is
Quotas are counted in cost units rather than requests, because a cached lookup and a live quote are not the same amount of work. A cached lookup costs 1, a search 3, a compatibility expansion 5, and a live quote 20. So a Developer key’s 10,000 units a day is about 3,300 searches, or 500 live quotes, or any mix in between.
Every response carries X-Quota-Remaining, so you never have to estimate from here.

Aggregate demand insights
The paid demand product is served by GET /v1/insights/demand with scope insights:read. It is an aggregate, non-personal market signal — never user data. The API reports the k-anonymity threshold used and the number of suppressed rows in every response.
